On a Serious Note

If you think you're getting to know me through the words and images I deliberately choose to present, maybe you're right, but most likely you're wrong. You haven't even begun to break the tip of the iceberg. In response to anonymous comments I'd received that deemed me as being "vain" and "materialistic," just to name a few; yes, I admit designer items do afford people a certain air of affluence and this is appealing because well, who doesn't like to be perceived as a person of high status? But the appeal doesn't just end there. Designer items are also worthwhile investments for long-term usage and speaks of premium quality and highly skilled workmanship. I'm extremely fortunate to have a job that allows me to afford such things and I want to enjoy my success, not apologize for it.

So take what you read and see, for whatever it's worth, however you want; but don't approach me with speculations and assumptions. If my blog pisses you off that much, I hereby liberate you to not visit and go find something better to do with your time.

CHRISTOPHER KANE S/S 2009

How I'm feeling at the moment. If these animals could talk, I bet they'd say, "I'll fuck you up!", or something along those lines.

XOXO,

I never saw the original comment, so I'm only guessing what the comment was about. I hate when people leave comments critizing how other people spend their money. Its your money so you should be able to spend it however you want without having to explain yourself.

In the meantime, I will continue living vicariously through your purchases :)

Ha ha great post Lily!!!!!! People do not understand the quality of fashion passion. But if we were buying a house, a new car, a stove, or washer and dryer-- which the world deems an acceptable way to spend your money and live your life no one would say a darn thing!
It drives me CRAZY! Life is all about priorities...

I am sorry someone would just talk about your opinion and work like that. After all they do have a choice to read it. And while I am living on a broke college students, budget. I do value quality as well..by splurging as much as I can. So ignore the hater's and keep doing what your doing.

Very well said! The person was probably just jealous that you can afford things that she can't ;)

i didnt see the comment either. but i just want to say that the bigger/famous your blog gets the more frequent these annonymous commenters will seem to drop by and leave crap comments. dont let it get to you. believe me.. not worth it.

just like in real life. these people will give the sweetest/nicest seeming bloggers/youtubers the harshest comments which usually dont even make sense.

p.s. the fact that these ppl care enough to leave mean comments and bring u down means your blog is growing and there people out there who envy it/you. good and bad i guess..

jealousy is always the case, being on the internet is safe for them to say it than being humiliated in public, i rather wished they would say it to our faces, would of sparked lots of fun. dw love forget the haters!

I agree wholeheartedly. If you want to spend money on fashion than that is your business, and nobody should judge you for it. After all, it's your money!

It was great of you to speak out about a rude comment in such an articulate way.

Well said. Buy what you like, you know what you can afford and what you can't.

Fashion blogs are all materialistic, society is entirely materialistic. Just because someone chooses to spend their money on clothing and accessories doesn't make them vain. To each their own. I'm with you though! If you have the means to shop high end, don't let other's uninformed criticisms stop you.

I can completely relate to this post. I actually had an anonymous commenter say, "I hope you get obese." Uh, WTF?! Where did that come from?! But alas, there are jealous, stupid, rude people out there. Every now and then I get comments like that. And because you are attractive, fashionable, and articulate, those people feel the need to vent about their own insecurities. BTW I think you're fab.

This was wonderfully done for the way you were feeling. I love seeing your style, especially because I am a poor college student and cannot afford designer things the closest I can get is used! So I would love to live vicariously through you as well. =D

I am sure it was just someone having a bad day.

See this as the pepper flakes in your life that is a bowl of chicken noodle soup. =]

duuuude. people used to leave me shitty ass comments on my old blog and since i started moderating and announced that i have !@#$*& cancer, they stopped. all i can say is...MOTHERFUCKERSGOGETALIFE...and other than that, as long as you're happy and content, nothing else matters. clearly, we all have a purpose in life- and so what if it is fashion for some of us?! obviously no one is going to post everything that they do in their lives on blogs...i mean, that's just boring! soooo KUDOS to this post!

and lastly! omg I want one of those kane shirts...contemplating...my clicking fingers want to click the purchase button SO badly.

Honey,

The only reason this 'anon' is 'anon' is because they are very sad sad people. That person is obviously unhappy with their way of life, because I am sure many of the people viewing your blog love you clothes and you have no reason to say why you spent this much on that bag and that top and so forth!

I wish I had the money and success to be able to invest in such great items, so go spend and don't justify it.

Good Luck with you blog sweetie, because you've become a worldwide success

London loves you too! That's London, UK

Hey. I think you're beautiful and you're absolutely right- you have no need to apologize to anyone for your nice things. I thought the whole point of this kind of blog was that we wanted to see and admire your nice pieces and how you wear them... so I would hope you can remember all the nice comments rather than the few nasty, envious ones. I love your blog!

elsalvador said...

I think it's really admirable that you work for the things that you have. I mean, you deserve it. It also seems like things mean so much more when you work hard for them.

So don't even worry about those anons. There is nothing to apologize for or even explain.

In other words, you go, girl!

i love those christopher kane tees! also, i hate when people judge how other people spend money. this happened to me once, with a guy i was seeing and it made me so angry! the thing is, he spent just as much money as i did, i just chose to spend mine on fashion, and there is nothing wrong with that. money is a private matter, and it is extremely rude to judge how others spend it. your money is nobody's business but yours. also, it seems that you work very hard for what you have and you obviously deserve everything you've earned. people are so frustrating sometimes, but don't let it get to you. keep doing what you love because in the end, it's all that matters. <3

I commend you for speaking your mind and setting things straight without a harsh exchange of words. People are always out to pick a fight and looking for the next person to be jealous of; blaming everyone but themselves for their unfortunate and fowl misdirected attitudes.
Thank you for proving that no matter who you are, passing judgement upon someone's quality of character based on status, only proves the other person's ignorance. People are all too ready to jump at the chance to scrutinize. I am happy for you in your success. Don't let anyone bring you down.

-Cheers

well said Lily! the solution for people who leave nasty comments is easy (you said it yourself) - just don't visit the blog if it's irritating them that much!

i on the other hand enjoy your blog quite a bit.

and yes I agree it is fine to be able to enjoy the luxuries which you have worked hard for.

smile more in your photos!

i sometimes envy people who can afford such things but i definitely do not hold it against them. some people have little, some have more. that's how the world works but that doesn't mean there's nothing to be done about that. instead of talking trash, it's much better to use this jealousy as a motivation to improve one's quality of life. i hope that mean commentor realizes this soon enough. :)

ps.

i love your style!
