If I had a dollar for every time someone said to me, "You don't look Vietnamese." I often get mistaken for Japanese or mixed (Asian and Caucasian).

BTW...

Peter and I are in the January 2011 issue of FLARE, available on newsstands nmeow!

XOXO,

that's one awesome feature! and that hat is just way too cute <3

i think the most frustrating part for me is when most people think all asian looks the same. no we don't!

that's an awesome feature:) congrats!
It's so annoying when people make up their own stereotype ideas of how people should look like when being 'foreign'. I think there's something important to remember, is high peeks (or how do you say that? high highs?) comes with high lows. So the more you get famous or get a lot of opportunities or whatever positive, high lows comes with that. It's often easier to think that when you've made it somewhere that bad things will somehow be smaller of disappear.. but remember: you rock!

I had no idea that you were Vietnamese! I'm actually very terrible at guessing someone's ethnicity, but I'm Vietnamese as well. I don't know why this excites me? hahaha

Firstly, congratulations on the magazine features! If anyone deserves it you do. I am slightly obsessed with your blog/wardrobe and this outfit is a great example of why. Effortlessly chic, laid back and always in heels! Perfection as always. X

Wow Congrats girl for being in Elle!!! That is awesome! I Love thise look:) Your shoes are fabulous and I know what you mean on being mistaken for ethnicity! I am half african american(my mom wasn't dark to begin with) and when ever I tell people they say "No WAY!"

Santina said...

I adore your effortlessly chic style. You look really happy in the first picture - beautiful!

It's funny that I am only now getting mistaken for something other than just an American. I've been in Mexico for a little more than three months, so I'm quite tan and whenever I speak Spanish, people mistake me for a Mexican! I find it more funny than annoying though.

There are so many different features, and different facial styles in every ethnicity.

I get "Are you Viet" (or, in Fob Talk, "Beeyet") all the time from my own peeps. So I see what you're talking about.

And I get a lot of "Are you Chinese"? Or Japanese. Or Korean. As if those are the only countries in Asia.

Whatever people tell you or ask you, if they tell you you're beautiful, they're 100% correct.

I love seeing you smiling like that. It's radiant.

Xx,
Mae Lu, thereafterish.

You are absolutely stunning!

Also, I would just like to state how psyched I am that you're from Calgary. I started following your blog before I even knew that... being a born and raised Calgarian, I very often lose faith in the fashionable side of Calgary. But you are single-handedly restoring my faith that there are other fashionistas in the city. Keep it up!
