On My Way To Self-Discovery

SOURCE: WE HEART IT
So the big news... I'm volunteering abroad with United Planet! Initially I applied to Peru, but after much thought and consideration, I decided to change my quest to Nepal instead. My confirmation dates are September 19th to October 17th. Once there, I'll stay with a host family and volunteer at the local orphanage in Kathmandu, capital of Nepal.
United Planet works with OCCED/Nepal (Organization for Community Child & Environment Development), a registered non-political and non-governmental organization with the goal of improving the lives of children and families in need in the Kathmandu area. This includes providing food, shelter, health services and education. As a volunteer, I'll be assisting in the areas of childcare and teaching at the orphanage.
This truly is out of my comfort zone. I've never been to Nepal or traveled overseas by myself before. I'm scared, but I'm more scared of what may happen if I don't go. I told myself at the beginning of the year to be an active participant in my own happiness. My decision to volunteer is the result of my favorite Muhammed Ali quote: "He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life."
Now to my friends and readers, I need your help fundraising. You've all been an influential and positive energy in my life, so I want you to be a part of this as well. Any donation, no matter the amount (even $5 will go a long way), would be greatly appreciated and will contribute to the program fee and help United Planet continue helping those who need it most. To make a donation and join me in trying to make a difference, click here.
Thank you all so much for your love and support on my journey. It means the world to me. Remember, if you woke up in your own bed this morning, you are blessed. Note: Please do not feel obligated to donate. Your moral support is more than enough.
XOXO,

I think what you're doing is so brave and awesome! It's great that you are doing something productive with your trip and not just going on a vacation.
Lily I'm so excited for you! You're going to embark on quite an experience :) It'll be a great opportunity to grow, and learn about new cultures and yourself as well! I've also been thinking of doing something like that - to India/Cambodia. A goal of mine to reach next year :) I can't wait to read about your experience there! xx

You already know I'm 110% behind doing this. Not only is traveling overseas a huge awakening/eye opener, it is also humbling. You will come back changed. And not only are you traveling overseas, you're traveling to HELP. This is a great time in your life, and I think you should be so proud and humbled. This is a great undertaking, and I am with you.
I'll just have to donate when I get paid this Friday, though. :)
LOVEYOU,
Mae Lu, @ thereafterish.

Very cool! I've always wanted to do something like that... Kudos to you! :) :)
The audacity of someone with the funds to buy designer this and designer that to ask for donations to pursue a trip with a volunteer program.
As if.
I know I'm not the only one who has commented on this, I just wish you made those comments visible.
Either way, good luck.
Good luck on your journey. It will be amazing!

Congratulations! Read "Little Princes: One Man's Promise to Bring Home the Lost Children of Nepal" about a guy who traded his day job for a year-long trip around the globe, a journey that began with a three-month stint volunteering at the Little Princes Children’s Home, an orphanage in war-torn Nepal.
I finally donated (just got paid), it's not much ($40USD), but I will probably donate again before your trip.
Again, I'm so proud of you.
LOVEYOUBFF,
Mae Lu, @ thereafterish.
I'll take one of everything!
