Wishful Thinking

There are plenty of things I wish I could be, i.e., I wish I was taller, had perfect skin, two dimples (instead of just one), her hair, her eyes, bigger boobs, existing hips, etc. But then when I think about it, if I were all these things, I wouldn't be me. As imperfect as I am, I kind of like me, and if I were all these things, then I'd be someone else. So never try to be something or someone that you aren't. Instead, wish to be the best version of you.

Actually, fuck a wish. JUST BE.

If You Love Clothes, Keep Reading

I've mentioned before I work for Aritzia, so of course I wanted to share this good news with all of you: we're hiring for the holidays! Yep, you read that right. If you're creative, enthusiastic, hardworking and love lending a helping hand, we want to meet you.

If you aren't familiar with Aritzia (where have you been hiding?), it's a women's fashion boutique that offers beautifully designed clothes from exclusive in-house labels—A Moveable Feast, Community, Talula, T.Babaton, TNA, Wilfred, Wilfred Free and Le Fou by Wilfred—as well as other labels including J Brand, Mackage (this Quella leather motorcycle jacket is next on my shopping list!) Rachel Comey and Rag & Bone.

Founded in 1984 and based in Vancouver, Aritzia has boutiques in select markets across Canada, the US and soon to be online (stay tuned for the launch date!). Christmas is 2 months away and there's no better time than now to apply. Simply submit your resume to erin@aritzia.com and be sure to mention BLEED FOR FASHION sent you. Just kidding! No, but seriously.

XOXO,

When I Love You Means Everything and More

My relationship with my boyfriend has been quite the ride lately, making the sudden sharpest of turns and deepest of loops. It's as if we're stuck in some dingy and unbearably suffocating plight that we can't manage to make our way out from; like we're clawing at each other in competition, rather than working together in unison; living yet leaving our core blindsightedly in seperate directions, waiting for the other to look back and fight a battle that's been exhaustedly fought so many times before.

I'm going with my gut instinct now, hoping for the best. I can breathe slightly easier knowing that my instinct has never led me astray, but then again, there's a first for everything—I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this won't be that exception. Something in me is certain that if we attempt to work it out at the same time, with the same willingness, exertion and vigor, that it won't be so hard to get back to how it once was. Wishful thinking perhaps, but I promise to try until I can't anymore, to work until my hands bleed and to love until I have nothing left.

Answers Part 3

OAK + FORT SWEATER & BLOUSE, GUCCI BOOTS & HAT, CHANEL BAG, CC SKYE NECKLACE

What do you do for a living? I work full-time as a Customer Care Associate at Aritzia and part-time as a Barre Tender (cue Floyd Dixon song here) at Barre Fitness.

What's an average day like for you? I wake up at 5am* so I can be the first person in the office at 7am and the first person to leave at 4pm. Then I'll go home, reset and take a Barre Fitness or Bootcamp class from 5:30-6:30pm. Afterwards, I'll go back home, shower, have sex with my boyfriend, have dinner, have sex with my boyfriend again, then go to bed.

What advice would you give to those who want to work in high-end retail? I can honestly say after working for Smart Set, Jacob, Club Monaco, Gucci, JNBY, The Bay White Space and now Aritzia, your main objective remains the same: to sell clothes. If you think you'd be a perfect fit, apply. It's not rocket science.

What advice would you give to new bloggers? Don't blog to get famous.

What advice would you give to college students about life after college? I'm the worst person to ask for advice on this as this hands down is going to be the hardest thing I've ever divulged to you readers. Far worse than any heartbreak or tinge of insecurity, of all the things I regret in my life, it's not handling my money wiser. So if there's just one piece of advice I can give, it's this: SAVE YOUR MONEY. Seems simple enough, but as we all know, these words are easier said than practiced.

What are your thoughts on being single? I came across this quote 2 years ago before I met my boyfriend and it describes my thoughts perfectly: "Single is not a status. It is a word that best describes a person who is strong enough to live and enjoy life without depending on others." The reality is we are our own person, and if we can't enjoy being single, how can we enjoy being with someone else? Think about it.

When can we 'meet' the boyfriend on the blog? Good question. I'll get back to you on that one.

What's something you and your boyfriend do for fun? We LOVE going to comedy shows (improv and stand up) and the movies.

The workout you're doing that I saw on your Instagram: Back2Barre fitness. What's involved? At Barre Fitness we're challenging our clients to take no less than 36 classes for 12 consecutive weeks, and let's just say I have a lot of catching up to do.

Thoughts on fashion and art? Read this.

Are your eyelashes real? Currently, yes.

What are your sources of inspiration? I'm inspired by normal things, extraordinary things, stories, people, but most of all, youth. To be more specific, I love blowing bubbles, walking barefoot in the sand, swinging on a swing, the smell of old/new books and 90s Kate Moss.

What's your haircare routine like and what products do you use? I wash my hair 2-3 times a week using davines Love Shampoo and Conditioner. Before I blow dry my hair, I apply davines Momo Moisturizing Anti-Frizz. Once my hair is dry, I use a hair straightener and apply CHI Silk Infusion to my ends for good measure. I used to use davines No 7 Crystal Fixative Lacquer Hairspray to keep my bangs in place, but now I use L'Oreal Elnett Hairspray (it's cheaper and more accessible).

How's life? A beautiful struggle.

What song are you listening to right now? Journey - Faithfully (Boyce Avenue acoustic cover).

*This will soon change once we extend our office hours to 5am-10pm.
